Hey doll,
Now, before you go and get TOO excited, let me preface this post with an I DID NOT DIY THIS.
What I mean by that is, I did not go to the hardware store, buy steel pipe, corners and a connector to the wall, make sure that it was dipped in a rustic looking black covering, cut it to length, thread it with that fancy machine, cut the wood, drill a hole and stain it.
^^ NOPE, because I’ve learned – the hard way – that some projects, though they APPEAR simple and inexpensive, can run you up a lot of sweat equity and … well just cost as you buy the supplies, the tools and the knowhow to make something “simple”.
I mean, for real, you have to know your strengths and just general abilities before you dive into a DIY that conceptually is pretty straight forward but really is a completely different story.
My advice, run your quick and easy idea past your husband as he watches a video on YouTUBE, if he pauses the video long enough to ask you if you are out of your mind and go over the details of what this project would really involve, than you know it is something you are probably better off dropping the $35 bucks on.
And that’s my opening “wisdom” on this quick DIY.
Now, I did call this a DIY project for a reason!
There are a few things with this purchase that I would recommend adding your smarts to in order to make sure it
(a) stays on the wall (important!), and;
(b) does not thread monkey or un-do as it sees all the wear and tear of a house FULL of little people.
So THIS is the “Rustic Industrial Toilet Paper Holder with Shelf, Qianniu Paper Roll Holder by Pipe Decor with Wooden Shelf Mounted Bathroom Storage Shelf“, because to call it anything else would not *adequately* describe the item (as evidenced by Amazon’s astounding description).
I mean, REALLY, you can search almost anything except for elegant toilet roll holder and you will undoubtedly get this as an option.
** ps, if you like the looks of that, click on the link above and get one for your bathroom! It is an “associates” link which means it doesn’t cost you extra but this SAHM gets a little thank you from Amazon**
Alright, in addition to the box set received from Amazon *thank you Prime for getting it to my house before I forgot what I had ordered!* you will want to make sure you have metal wall anchors (I find ones like these to be the easiest to install AND REMOVE << a BIG thing when you move into an older home where everything was hung with plastic anchors and screws … which do a tremendous amount of damage upon take down). You will also want to have some sort of metal or plastic adhesive for pipes (I used PVC concrete that was hanging around in my husband’s tool bin).
So why the few “extras”?
First, the until it hearty, it is made real pipe and wood which means it has some significant weight to it. The screws and the anchors that are included are short and flimsy respectively.
Can you tell that I am not a fan of plastic anchors?
The screws won’t be long enough to secure into a beam, nor is it very likely that where you will be fixing the unit will be on a stud… these things rarely line up. So at least two of the metal anchors will be required to make sure that when your little monkey children decide to use this as a pull up par, it doesn’t rip out of your wall and send them flying into the toilet.
^^ this may or may not have happened in our home.
Something like this would work as well as the one I found in the bottom of my husband’s tool bin.
NOW – you have to listen to these words of wisdom from a woman who didn’t use her brain while she was working on this little DIY project.
1. You will want to work in a well ventilated room (yes, a pregnant woman did this in her bathroom with the door closed so her 19 month old wouldn’t bother her, in the winter … BUT, I would not recommend that).
2. You cannot put this on the inside of the pipes and assemble to full unit. Go figure, the cement needs air to dry. If you assemble the full toilet roll holder you will effectively seal it off and there will simply be no drying.
Beside those two not-so-obvious tips, you will want to cement a couple key spots on your new cell phone shelf.

Just 5 More Minutes
Jumping out of bed with joy and pep seems impossible as a mom who is knee deep in the trenches of sleep feedings and nightmares.
Starting your day with intention and a plan, heck, setting an alarm, seems like a practice in futility when your children will – GUARANTEED – wake up before anything and throw your good intentions out the window faster than that last precious moment of peaceful slumber.
Why though?
What’s stopping us from starting right as mothers?
